Queensryche
Founded in 1981 this band is still going strong, although they had a few throwbacks last decade. After the first legendary EP and the development they went through via ‘The Warning’ and of course ‘Rage For Order’ the band, consisting of Geoff Tate, Chris De Garmo, Michael Wilton, Eddie Jackson and Scott Rockenfield, releases her concept album ‘Operation Mindcrime’. This album is made up of “detailed storyline, character development and strong songs” as they themselves say, that implicates getting an Edison in 1989. One day after the handover of this gem they are playing the first time as a headliner in the Netherlands, on stage in Arnhem during the Aardschokdag.
The big break through follows 1991 when ‘Silent Lucidity’ becomes very famous in America and the album ‘Empire’ is sold lots of times. This commercial clou is followed by a much ‘darker’ album called ‘Promised Land’, where Floydianic influences from their debut come op again. After singer Tate the dark sphere on ‘Promised Land’ is used to blow off the steam which conglomerated while they had big success with their previous album.
From
this point on it goes down with the band. The low point was reached with ‘Hear
In The Now Frontier’ which signalizes the farewell of Chris DeGarmo in 1997. He
just comes back in 2003 to write some songs for the album ‘Tribe’.
His place is first captured by Kelly Gray who is displaced again by Mike Stone
in 2003.
In 2006 the band records the successor of ‘Operation: Mindcrime’ and goes on tour.
The weeks before Wâldrock the band is going to play shows in Europe as big as these in 2006 (more than 3 hours on stage). We’ll be surprised how the show in Burgum is going to look like!
