Morbid Angel

Morbid Angel is one of the first death metal bands which also had sort of commercial success. They sold more than 1 mio. Records, which is first of all because they signed as the first death metal band at a big record label, Giant Records. The band is also known as a co-founder of death metal.

Before the first album was released, they came out with more or less 5 demos and a split CD. In 1989 the first Morbid Angel album comes out. But just 4 years after the first demo and 6 years after the foundation ‘Altars Of Madness’ is released via Earache Records. It arranges a fast break through. Two years later the highly praised album ‘Blessed Are The Sick’, what even seems to be better than expected.

In 1991 the album ‘Abominations Of Desolation’ comes out. It was already recorded in 1986, but at that time the band decided to not release it yet.

In 1993 the album ‘Covenant’ comes out after releasing the single ‘Rapture’. The Slovak group Laibach produced an EP with some remixes of it in 1994.

One year later ‘Domination’ and again one year after that ‘Entangled In Chaos’ is released. Again two years later ‘Formulas Fatal To The Flesh’ comes out. All these albums were taken up very enthusiastic.

In 1999 some kind of strange album from Morbid Angel is released, it includes about 40 songs but just has a length of 18 minutes. The songs are solos from Trey Azagthoth without any other instruments. There are also all alternative versions from these on it. The next album is again taken up very good through the fans, it´s called ‘Gateways To Annihilation`.

After that there’s not going on much in band history. In 2003 ‘Heretic’ is released, but this album doesn’t seem to be that successful. There are just sold 20,000 CDs. That was their last studio album. In 2005 ‘Ignominious’ came out, a sort of compilation album.
