Forbidden

Forbidden (formerly known as Forbidden Evil) is the second, nearly legendary name, which decorates the Wâldrock placates this year. With illustrious ex- band members as Robb Flynn (Vio-Lence, Machine Head) and Paul Bostaph (Testament, Slayer) they understood to create furore in the notorious Bay-Area Scene at the end of the 80´s. The results were two classics out of pure quality: ‘Forbidden Evil’ and first and foremost ‘Twisted Into Form’. On the second one the guys from Death Angel supported the band with some singing, so- who knows, maybe it´s going to get down to a pleasant surprise on July 5th.

After a break of about 10 years in which they just made one gig at ‘Thrash Of The Titans’, Forbidden decided to become energetic again in the live scene. For the most part their line-up from the 80´s still is the same; the biggest change would be that now Gene ‘God’ Hoglan sits behind the drums.

At the end of February the band played two gigs with Death Angel in San Francisco to support them with their new album. They also saw it as a sort of warm-up for the oncoming gigs in Europe. According a statement on their My Space page these shows are going to be fairly exclusive and are going to be all about the 20th anniversary of their album ‘Forbidden Evil’. The set list may, to a great extent, consist of songs from the debut and from ‘Twisted Into Form’, in my eyes the best album of the band.

For the nearest future there are planned few new gigs. Next to the show at Wâldrock they confirmed their gig at Dynamo by now which takes place one day earlier. Therewith the band honours a long ago lost tradition: Former, till begin of the 90´s, at Dynamo Open Air and around, some bands toured through the same locations. Legendary scenes were obviously involved all the time.

Besides that, that Gene Hoglan is going to compete is a fairly unicum. Lately there will be few musicians which can tell about themselves that they already played about four times at Wâldrock.
